Brownea coccinea is a small tree growing 10-15ft (smaller in pot) and spreading almost the same. Though its seedling may be grown in pots, its layering or ‘ gutty ‘ saplings are the best. It dose well in full sun but young plants should be protected from bright sun and chill. It may be called the dwarf B. Grandiceps. But its flowers are smaller. It can be differented from B. Grandi by its leaf that has only 5-7 pairs of leaflets whereas B. Grandi has 12 to 18. Its new leaves that are brownish or pinkish with greenish and whitish spots are equally attractive as the B. Grandiceps. A very good choice for small garden and pot culture. It spreads brunches just few ft above the ground. Careful pruning after flowering may be done. Normally very slow grower and healthy. Balanced slow releasing manure suits it the best. It takes minimum 5yrs ( if seedling) to bloom but layering etc blooms faster.
