Araucaria cookii is a tall columnar tree and grows up to 60m in height. The species is native to New Caledonia, Polynesia and the Isle of Pines, and was later introduced in Indian gardens. Leaves on juvenile shoots are triangular or lance-shaped, while those on older shoots are broadly ovate, being rigid, closely overlapping and curving inwards. Male catkins are set in a cup-like arrangements of leaves, while female cones are elliptical .
